CARLISLE, Pa. — Denison men's soccer advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament with a gritty 1-0 win over Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon at Miller Memorial Field.
After 86 minutes of deadlock, Phil Koutsaftis delivered the game-winner after beating out mulitple defenders and finds the bottom right, burying his fifth goal of the season to push the Big Red through.
Denison (15-2-3) generated seven shots with two on frame, while goalkeeper Alex Provost posted a three-save clean sheet to keep the Generals off the board. W&L (11-5-5) held an 11–7 shot advantage but couldn't break through despite eight second-half attempts.
Both teams finished with 10 fouls, and three yellow cards were shown in a physical second half.
Denison moves into Sunday's Second Round and will face host school, Dickinson College at 3 p.m., playing for a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
