Denison Falls to John Carroll on Senior Day Finale

Quarterback Tyler Green broke the single-season passing yard record with his 407 yard day, but it was not enough in a 48-21 loss to #9th-ranked John Carroll.

Granville, Ohio - In the season finale and senior day for the Big Red, Denison would come up short in a loss to John Carroll. The Big Red were able to keep it a two-possession game going into the half, but the Blue Streaks were able to pull away, putting up 31 points in the second half. Denison finished their season 6-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play, while John Carroll finished the regular season 9-1 and 8-0 in conference play.

John Carroll got off to a quick start, scoring on their first two drives of the game to go up 14-0. Denison would start to get going on their second offensive drive, as Green would find Jack Williams four times down the field, including the touchdown in the corner of the endzone to get on the board, 14-7.

After a John Carroll field goal, both teams would trade punts, with Jonathon Higle and Rory Ralston coming up with big defensive plays to halt the John Carroll attack. On the next Big Red possession, the passing attack would lead them all the way into the red zone, but a holding penalty would push them back, and ultimately turning it over on downs.

The Big Red defense came alive once again, forcing a punt to give the offense one last shot before the half, but Green's pass would be intercepted, and John Carroll would go into the half with a 17-7 lead.

Denison needed to start the half in a big way, and they did just that, as Green found Grayson Kerscher for a 20-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the endzone to cut the John Carroll lead to three, 17-14. Green hit Kerscher for 64 of the 80 yards on the touchdown drive.

John Carroll would respond with a drive of their own, taking it 74-yards down the field to go back up 10, 24-14.

Denison would stall on their next offensive possession, but John Carroll would have a three-and-out thanks to pressure from Casper Rublowsky on the passing play. The Big Red would move the ball towards midfield, but be forced to punt. John Carroll would then score on a 69-yard passing touchdown to give the Blue Streaks a 31-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Blue Streaks would then score 21 straight to take a 48-14 lead, and on the last Denison possession, Green would swing it over to Cade Nowik who would then pass it to Logan Yater for the trick play score, giving Denison their seventh-straight game scoring 20+. Yater finished his day with seven catches for 72 yards and score, while Nowik had four catches for 32. John Carroll would run out the clock, and the final would be 48-21 in favor of the Blue Streaks.

Denison finished the day with 421 yards of total offense, all from the air. They achieved 22 first downs on the day, and had three receivers eclipse 40+ yards. The defense had five tackles for loss on the day, and three players had seven tackles a piece.
