Granville, Ohio - The Denison University men's soccer team heads to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the past five years. The Big Red finished the regular season 13-1-3 and fell to DePauw University 3-1Â in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game. The team looks to repeat their success from last season, as they advanced all the way to the Elite Eight, and the farthest they have advanced since the 1979 season. They head out east to Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to take on Washington and Lee University in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament this Saturday, November 15, at 3:30 pm.
NCAA Tournament History
This is the 13th time Denison has been in the NCAA Tournament, and the fourth this decade. In the previous three appearances this decade, Denison has compiled a 3-3 record, with all three wins coming in their Elite Eight run last season. Their first time making the tournament was in the 1974 season, where the legendary Ted Barclay led the Big Red to a 9-3-2 record and the program's first appearance. The team has won a total of five games in its postseason appearances.
Matchup History
Denison and Washington and Lee have faced off five times, with their last matchup ending in a 0-0 draw over a decade ago in 2013. The Generals lead the series 1-3-1, with the first matchup coming in 1988. This will be the first time the two squads meet each other in the NCAA Tournament.

Washington and Lee finished their season with an 11-4-5 overall record and 7-1-1 conference record. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after being defeated in the ODAC Tournament Championship by the 13th-ranked University of Lynchburg, 2-1. The Generals are making their 10th-consecutive and 11th overall NCAA postseason appearance. Their last two NCAA Tournament appearances ended in the Final Four.
NCAA Bracket Information
The tournament consists of 64 teams, with 43 conferences earning automatic qualification by winning their respective conference tournaments. The other 21 teams come from at-large bids, for those who did not win their conference tournament. Sixteen teams will host four teams in the first and second-round competition on either November 14-15 or November 15-16. Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites on either November 21-22 or November 22-23. Winners of the four sectionals will advance to the national semifinals, which will take place on Dec. 5 at Kerr Stadium in Salem, Virginia, with the Old Dominion Conference and the City of Salem serving as hosts. The national championship game will be played on December 7.Â
