Women's Basketball Roll Past Wilmington in 85-46 Home Victory

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison University's women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a dominant 85-46 victory over Wilmington College on Tuesday night inside Livingston Gymnasium. The Big Red (2-0) took control from the opening tip, jumping out to a 29-12 lead after the first quarter and holding the Quakers (0-3) to just two points in the second to take a commanding 49-14 halftime advantage.

1st Quarter: Denison started the game strong, going on a 14-2 run. Brooke Toigo and Violet Mitchell knocked down early 3-pointers, while Ada Taute scored in the paint and added several steals that turned into points. The Big Red shot nearly 47.6% from the field and forced seven first-quarter turnovers, building a 29-12 lead after the opening period.

2nd Quarter: The Big Red defense tightened even further in the second, holding Wilmington to just two points for the entire frame. Taute and Adelyn Moore provided an offensive spark each grabbing eight points each in the quarter. Molly Dorighi added points at the line as Denison extended its lead to 49-14 at halftime.

3rd Quarter: Wilmington came out strong after the break, but Denison's depth helped maintain control. Abby Cooch contributed five points, including a three-pointer and free throws, while Morgan Kress added key jumpers and layups, allowing the Big Red to outscore the Quakers 20-16 in the quarter.

4th Quarter: With the game firmly in hand, Denison finished strong with balanced contributions from across the roster. Isabelle McFadden knocked down a 3-pointers and a layup, three other players added three points each, and the Big Red bench provided energy on both ends, helping secure the 85-46 victory.

  • Adelyn Moore led all scorers with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals off the bench.

  • Isabelle McFadden added 15 points, three steals, and went 4-for-4 from the line.

  • Ada Taute contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and four steals.

  • Molly Dorighi tallied 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.

  • The Big Red bench outscored Wilmington's 55-15 and converted 30 points off turnovers.

Denison dominated nearly every category, shooting 85.7 percent from the free-throw line (24-for-28), forcing 26 turnovers, and holding Wilmington to 29.1 percent shooting from the floor.

The Big Red (2-0) aim to keep their momentum rolling this weekend as they host the Sara Lee Classic, facing Transylvania University and Franklin College.
