DELAWARE, Ohio - Denison women's soccer battled to a 1-1 draw against Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday night at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex, opening North Coast Athletic Conference play with a hard-fought result.
Ohio Wesleyan struck early with a goal in the second minute, but the Big Red settled in and controlled much of the match, outshooting the Battling Bishops 13-7 and holding an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Denison's equalizer came in the 74th minute when Emily Stackhouse sent the ball into the box. A Battling Bishop defender attempted to clear it, but Isabella Guzman pounced on the loose ball and buried her second goal of the season to even the score at one.
The Big Red continued to push forward in the closing minutes, but the score held even at the final whistle. Denison finished with seven shots on goal to OWU's four, while goalkeeper Molly Noga recorded three saves.
The draw brings Denison to 5-3-3 (0-0-1 NCAC) as the Big Red return home to celebrate Senior Day against Oberlin College on Saturday, October 11.
