Granville, Ohio – Denison Big Red women's soccer earned a commanding 3-0 win over Oberlin on a fall Saturday afternoon at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium, capping off a special Senior Day with their first conference victory of the season.
Just three minutes into the match, Denison nearly found the opener when a shot clanged off the crossbar and bounced straight down, allowing the Oberlin goalkeeper to recover and make the save. Despite the early chance, the teams went into halftime scoreless.
The Big Red finally broke through in the 65th minute when Isabella Guzman found herself one-on-one with a defender inside the box and buried her third goal of the season to put Denison on top 1-0. Reily Brinley followed in the 75th minute, dancing around the right side of the box before firing a low shot inside the far post for her first career goal. Just over a minute later, Della Hawkins capitalized as the goalkeeper came off her line lofting the ball over and into the net to seal the win off a clean assist from Ella Palmer.
Denison outshot Oberlin 14-0, including eight on target, and earned four corner kicks while holding the Yeowomen without a single attempt on goal.
With the win, Denison improves to 6-3-3 overall and 1-0-1 in NCAC play, while Oberlin falls to 3-6-3 (0-2-0). The Big Red will next hit the road to face The College of Wooster on Saturday, October 18, at 3 p.m. in conference action.
