Moore’s Career Night Highlights Victory Over Oberlin

Oberlin, Ohio- Following a 3-0 sweep of Wooster, the Denison Big Red volleyball team traveled up North to take on the Yeowomen of Oberlin College. The Big Red continued to make a push for the top of the conference standings as Denison knocked off Oberlin in four sets, moving to 11-14 on the year while evening out at 3-3 in conference play.

Up Next: The Big Red will be back in Livingston Gymnasium on Saturday for a tri-way match with Kenyon and Ohio Northern.


Denison 3, Oberlin 1 (25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 25-23)

Coming off a clean sweep of Wooster, the Big Red found themselves down early Wednesday night in a battle with the Yeowomen of Oberlin College. Oberlin jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the opening set. Denison had to methodically chip away at the deficit. Carolina Parkhurst was able to even the set at 12 all with a big kill. Ryan Kotalik served her first ace of the night to put Denison in the driver's seat for the rest of the set. In the closing moments, the Big Red capitalized on a handful of errors from Oberlin to take a 1-0 match lead.

In the second set, Denison kept a steady pace to grow a 10-6 lead. Oberlin began to claw back, knotting the set at 13-13. Devon Moore caught fire, rattling off five kills help the Big Red lead by as much as seven. Maeve Perry recorded the final kill to move Denison one step closer to a match victory.

The Yeowomen did not bow out of the fight, knocking off Denison in front of their home crowd in a tight third-set battle.

In the final set, the Big Red were able to put a stamp on their third conference victory. Parkhurst, Moore, Kotalik, and Alice Kempf contributed to a 5-0 Dension lead. The Denison offense remained hot while the defense stood strong, pushing the Big Red to a 13-5 lead. However, Oberlin sparked a comeback, knotting what would be the final set at 22-22. Ultimately, Parkhurst and Claire Hamilton would fly high to record the final points to send the Big Red back to Granville in the win column.

Moore notched a career-high 18 kills in the victory. Kempf continued to rack up assists, tallying 34 on the night. Sadie Habeeb collected 13 digs while Kotalik ended the night with four aces.
