GAMBIER, Ohio (Jan. 4) - The Denison University men's basketball team continued their dominant season with a commanding 72-57 victory over Kenyon College at Tomsich Arena on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Big Red improved to an impressive 11-1 overall and 3-0 in NCAC play, while the Owls fell to 2-10 (0-3 NCAC).
Denison was led by balanced scoring, with Ricky Radtke and Trevor Reed both tallying 14 points. Reed made an impactful return to the lineup after missing several games due to injury, contributing key moments in his 20 minutes on the floor. Cameron Smith added 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers, and Jack Steinbach chipped in with 7 points off the bench.
The Big Red started the game trailing 33-29 at halftime but turned the tide in the second half, outscoring the Owls 43-24. Denison's defense stepped up in critical moments, forcing 16 turnovers and converting them into 18 points. The team also controlled the paint, scoring 36 points inside and pulling down 39 rebounds compared to Kenyon's 28.
Kenyon's Charlie Heywood recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, but the Owls were unable to overcome Denison's second-half surge.
The Big Red excelled in transition, scoring eight fast-break points, and displayed their versatility with contributions from every player in the rotation. Their second-half adjustments, including improved ball movement and shot selection, allowed them to control the pace and dictate the game's outcome.
Denison will look to continue their winning streak when they host Wabash College on Wednesday, January 8th, at 6:00 PM inside Livingston Gymnasium.
