OBERLIN, Ohio (Jan. 29) – The No. 15 Denison men's basketball team continued its dominance in NCAC play with a 72-59 road victory over Oberlin inside Philips Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The win keeps the Big Red rolling as they push through the second half of their conference slate.
Unlike the first meeting between these teams—where Denison cruised to a 97-56 win—this matchup was much more competitive. The Big Red (17-1, 9-0 NCAC) built a commanding 42-25 halftime lead and held off a second-half push from the Yeomen (10-9, 2-8 NCAC) to secure the victory.
Ricky Radtke led the way for Denison with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting while adding six rebounds. Darren Rubin contributed 13 points, including a pair of three-pointers, and Trevor Reed recorded 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Denison shot an efficient 51.0 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Oberlin battled back in the second half behind JJ Gray's 16 points, trimming the deficit to as few as three points midway through the period. However, key buckets from Scotty Dean and Radtke down the stretch helped Denison regain control and close out the game.
With the win, the Big Red remain perfect in conference play and continue their push toward the postseason. They return home on Saturday, Feb. 1, to host rival Kenyon College for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff inside Livingston Gymnasium.
