GRANVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 7) – A pair of Grayson Honig goals lifted the University of Rochester past Denison University in a 2-1 decision in overtime Saturday in non-conference action at Deeds Field - Piper Stadium.
Honig delivered the game winner just 2:53 into the overtime session. The Yellowjackets took advantage of a penalty corner opportunity. Honig's goal was assisted by Hannah Mehta who touched a pass ahead for the score.
Honig was a major reason why the game headed to overtime. Her unassisted goal with 7:15 to play evened the score at 1-1.
Denison took the lead midway through the third quarter when
Nina Casingal buried a penalty stroke opportunity to put the home team ahead 1-0.
Neither team found much offensive traction over the first 30 minutes of the game. The two teams combined for just three shots in the first half.
The Yellowjackets held advantages in shots (12-4) and penalty corners (8-0).
Athena Joannou made six saves in goal for the Big Red.
Lauren Proicou finished with two shots to pace Denison.
The win improves Rochester to 3-0 while Denison falls to 0-3 in 2024.
Denison returns to action with a non-conference game on Sunday, Sept. 8. The Big Red hosts Concordia Wisconsin at 11 a.m. in Granville.
