ANGOLA, Ind. (Sept 18) –
Sophia Connell scored in the 51st minute to account for the lone goal of the match to allow Denison University women's soccer to secure a 1-0 road win Wednesday over Trine University in non-conference play.
The win moves Denison to 3-2-1 overall. The loss drops Trine to 3-2-2 in 2024.
Connell picked a good time for her first goal of the season. Denison's persistence paid off as the team recorded 11 of its 18 shots in the second half.
Megan Mulvey, the team leader in points, was credited with the assist on Connell's game winner.
The defensive unit remained key in the Denison victory. All three wins thus far in 2024 have come via shutout.
Molly Noga and
Wynne Hague split time in goal. Noga played the first half and recorded one save. Hague posted one save over the final 45 minutes.
Mara McGlone and
Lola Tirabassi led the way offensively in terms of shots. Both players finished with four apiece.
Denison held an 18-13 advantage in shots. The Big Red's disparity in shots on goal was much larger, as the visitors held an 11-2 margin over the Thunder in the category. The teams combined for just three corner kicks (Denison 2-1).
