DANVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 14) – Centre College scored a goal in each half to earn a victory over the Denison University women's soccer team in a non-conference game at Amend Field on Saturday afternoon in Danville, Kentucky.
The host Colonels used an unassisted score by Josie Bencic in the 31st minute to take a 1-0 lead. That lead carried the Colonels into halftime.
Centre tacked on an insurance goal in the 61st minute when Alexis Kronenthal found the back of the net. The goal by Kronenthal, her second of the season, stretched the Centre advantage to 2-0.
The Colonels held an 11-8 advantage in shots. The two teams combined to put just three shots on goal during the match. Centre held a 6-3 margin in corner kicks.
Mara McGlone and
Lola Tirabassi had two shots each to lead Denison. The Big Red saw its two goalkeepers split the action in net.
Wynne Hague earned the start and worked the first 45 minutes before giving way to
Molly Noga, who played the second half.
The loss drops Denison's record to 2-2-1 overall. The Big Red travels to Indiana to take on Trine University on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
