GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 14, 2024) – The Denison University men's lacrosse team defeated DePauw University by 10, 20-10, at home on Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated in North Coast Athletic Conference action.
Colin MacLean won the opening faceoff and
Nick Vance scored on an assist from
Michael Cassidy just 32 seconds in.
Denison would ultimately lead 5-0 after a goal by
Tommy Quinson with 10:34 on the clock in the first quarter and then 9-1 after a goal by
Luke Fisher with 7:03 left in the period.
Another goal by Quinson made it 10-2 after the first quarter, and then it was a 10-point game (15-5) at halftime after a goal by
Jackson Erdmann, who added another goal in the opening minute of the third quarter to record the first two-goal game of his career.
Four minutes later, a goal by
Lawton Corrigan made it 17-5, which is the largest Denison's lead would get.
Denison outshot DePauw 60-26, including a wild 23-3 margin in the first quarter, led 70-28 in groundballs, including 26-5 in the opening period, and won 30-of-32 faceoffs overall while winning 12-of-13 in the first 15 minutes.
MacLean was a perfect 14-for-14 on faceoffs while
Grant Larson was 11-for-13,
Sam Wadsworth was 3-for-3 and
Mac Upton was 2-for-2.
Offensively, it was Fisher (4 goals; 2 assists),
Nate Kay (3 goals; 2 assists) and Quinson (3 goals) once again leading the Big Red attack.
It was Fisher's fourth game in a row with four goals scored while freshman
Liam Gillard scored his first-career goal with 6:53 left in the third quarter.
With its fifth win in a row, Denison improves to 9-5 overall and 5-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The Big Red are also now 11-0 all-time against DePauw (7-6, 1-4), winning each game by at least 10 goals since the two teams first played in 2013.
Next week will see the Big Red play at Oberlin College starting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, before hosting Senior Day against the College of Wooster starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20.
