GRANVILLE, Ohio (Dec. 4) – The reigning NCAC champion DePauw University Tigers closed the game with an extended run to earn a 75-65 victory over the host Denison University Big Red in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both teams Wednesday evening at Livingston Gymnasium.

The loss drops the Big Red to 5-3 overall. The Tigers move to 4-3 overall on the young season.

Sophomore guard Adelyn Moore put together a strong showing in the loss. The transfer put together her best effort of the season, finishing with a game-high 17 points. Moore knocked down four-of-six three-point attempts, made six-of-nine attempts overall from the field. Moore added five rebounds, two blocks and an assist in 25 minutes off the bench.

After trailing by five-points at halftime, Denison put together a strong showing on both ends of the court during the third quarter to surge into the lead. The Big Red limited the Tigers to nine points and just one made field goal over the 10-minute period.

DePauw put together a strong finish to rally to victory. The Tigers closed the game with an 18-4 run which included the final seven points of the contest. Denison took its first lead of the game when Moore drained a three to make it 42-41 at the 4:25 mark of the third. After DePauw pushed back in front, Moore knocked down another trey to even the score at 45 with two minutes left in the quarter. Junior guard Brooke Toigo made a three-point field goal on the final possession to make it 51-47 in favor of the Big Red heading to the fourth.

The Big Red lead reached six points twice in the early stages of the final quarter. Moore sank her fourth three-pointer of the game to swell the advantage to 59-53 with 7:28 to play. That's when the game took a turn for the worse for Denison. Moore's triple ended up being Denison's final made field goal of the game. A three-point play by DePauw's Olivia Hart evened the score at 63 with 3:03 remaining. The Tigers eventually took the lead and pulled away by making 7-of-8 free throw attempts in the final 1:20 of game time.

A slow start in the first quarter allowed DePauw to race out to an early double-digit lead. Consecutive layups by Olivia Hart and Riley Mont stretched the Tigers' lead to 16-2 at the 3:58 mark. A layup by senior Bryana Woodard and a three-point play by Moore gave Denison some life late in the opening quarter. Field goals by sophomore Abby Cooch and senior Abigail Westmeyer in the final 1:46 of the quarter brought the deficit back into single digits.

The positive momentum for Denison spilled over into the second quarter. Another triple by Moore pulled the Big Red within six points (28-22) with 7:33 to play in the half. Less than three minutes later, Denison pulled within one when senior Maddie Goodman drilled at triple at the 4:47 mark. Denison eventually pulled even when Moore converted a layup on the fast break to make it 31-31 with 3:09 to go before the half. The Tigers were able to counter with seven of the next nine points to take a 38-33 lead into the break.
Westmeyer finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Cooch added 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Goodman filled the stat sheet with nine points, five rebounds and three assists. Woodard chipped in nine points and five boards.
