GRANVILLE, Ohio (Oct. 9) – A second half goal by senior
Jake Krueger lifted the 17th ranked Denison University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Oberlin College Wednesday evening in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium.
"I'm really proud of the guys tonight," said Denison head coach
Brandon Bianco. "Credit to Oberlin for making things difficult, but to earn midweek conference win and a shutout is something we'll always be pleased with. We have a few things to look at as we move into the weekend, and I know we're excited to do so."
Denison improves to 7-1-3 overall and 2-0 in NCAC play with the win. Oberlin drops to 4-7-1 overall and 0-2 in league games.
Krueger's header into the back of the net after a long boot from
Zarius Eusebe was the difference for the Big Red. Krueger's NCAC-leading ninth goal of the season came in the 51st minute of play.
The win helped Denison avenge a pair of scoreless ties in the past two meetings with the Yeomen.
Denison held an 11-1 advantage in shots (5-1 in shots on goal). The Big Red recorded a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
With tonight's game in the rear view mirror, Denison can now turn its attention to Saturday's road trip to Gambier, Ohio. The Big Red will face off with second-ranked Kenyon in a conference matchup of Top 25 teams. The Owls saw their NCAC-record 60-match unbeaten streak end Wednesday evening in a 3-0 road loss to Ohio Wesleyan. The Big Red and Owls will kick off at 1 p.m.
