GRANVILLE, Ohio (Oct. 26) -- The Denison University women's soccer team scored early and often during a 6-0 shutout victory over visiting Hiram College on Senior Day at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Denison moves to 4-1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and 9-4-3 overall.
The shutout was the ninth of the season for the Big Red. The six goals were the most by Denison in a game since they scored seven in a win over Otterbein during the 2018 season.
A pair of seniors,
Caroline Flynn and
Sophia Connell, combined to score four goals during the victory over the Terriers.
Flynn opened the scoring in the 10th minute of play. Flynn's score was assisted by
Avery Butler, who dribbled the ball up near the end line before chipping it back to Flynn, who finished with a shot into the left corner of the goal.
Less than three minutes later, Denison added to its lead. Connell received a pass from
Mara McGlone while guarded by a defender but turned and booted the ball into the left corner of the goal. Connell's first score of the day came in the 13th minute.
Denison struck again in the 16th minute. Capitalizing on a corner kick, McGlone headed the ball into the top right corner of the net. Flynn delivered a perfect ball to set McGlone up for the score. The McGlone moved the lead to 3-0, which would be the lead that Denison carried into halftime.
The Big Red scored three more times in the second half. Connell was able to tap in a rebound in the 51
st minute to make the score 4-0.
Eliza Roach was credited with an assist on Connell's second goal of the day.

Denison made it 5-0 when Flynn scored her second goal of the day in the 60th minute. Flynn was setup by a through ball from McGlone, which allowed Flynn to beat the Hiram keeper one-on-one.
In the 75th minute of play,
Lola Tirabassi scored one final goal for Denison. Tirabassi was able to pop a shot into the back of the net following a nice setup by classmate
Megan Mulvey, who played the ball over from just inside the top right of the 18-yard box.
Denison held lopsided advantages in shots (37-5), shots on goal (16-1) and corner kicks (8-2).
Wynne Hague picked up the victory in net on Senior Day. Hague recorded one save during a relatively quiet 90 minutes of play.
Denison honored Connell, Hague, Flynn, Roach,
Kate Dalimonte and
Emma Wecht prior to the game. The group has helped Denison to 34 wins, two NCAC Tournament titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances over the past four years.
