GAMBIER, Ohio (Oct. 11) – A first half goal by sophomore
Mara McGlone coupled with strong defensive play helped the Denison University women's soccer team secure its fourth-straight win Friday when they defeated host Kenyon College by a 1-0 score.
The win improves the Big Red to 2-0 in NCAC play and 7-3-2 overall. The loss drops the Owls to 0-2 in the conference and 1-8 overall.
McGlone provided the game-winning goal for a second-straight game. Just last Saturday, McGlone notched the game-winning score in the 90th minute of play in a 2-1 win at Wittenberg. This time McGlone took the drama out of things by finding the back of the net in the 10th minute of play.
Junior defender
Avery Butler assisted McGlone's third goal of the season. This marked the third straight game that Butler has recorded a point.
All three of McGlone's goals in 2024 have come during the Big Red's current four-match winning streak.
Denison was unable to add to its lead in the second half but controlled play. Kenyon mustered just one shot over the final 45 minutes.
Senior goalkeeper
Wynne Hague started, played the initial 45 minutes and recorded the win. Junior goalkeeper
Molly Noga played the final 45 minutes in net.
Denison out-shot Kenyon by a 17-4 margin (6-0 shots on goal) and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Up Next: Denison hosts DePauw for a conference matchup at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
