GRANVILLE, Ohio (Oct. 16) -- In a matchup of the lone unbeaten teams in the North Coast Athletic Conference, the Denison University women's soccer team played to a hard-fought 0-0 draw against visiting DePauw University on Wednesday night at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium.
Both teams entered the match undefeated in conference play with 2-0 records, and each carried a four-game winning streak into the match. Denison moves to 7-3-3 overall and 2-0-1 in the NCAC while DePauw is now 8-4-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the conference.
Denison dominated early, controlling possession and earning six shots in the first half. The Big Red also saw four corner kicks in the first half, but couldn't find the back of the net.
The Big Red saw similar play in the second half, recording an additional five shots and three corner kicks, but still couldn't string together enough off the play to put a point on the board. The Big Red attempted 11 shots, with six landing on target.
Maryn Zavislak led the team with two shots on goal, including a close chance in the waning minutes of the match when DePauw goalkeeper Aubree Empie made a crucial save, tipping Zavislak's shot just over the crossbar. Empie made four saves overall, with two additional team saves from the Tigers' defense.
On the other side, Denison's defense was equally impressive, allowing only one shot on goal, which was saved by goalkeeper Molly Noga.
The second half saw an increase in fouls, with 11 of the 15 total fouls occurring after halftime as both teams fought to break the deadlock.
Denison now turns its attention to a home match against The College of Wooster this Saturday, October 19, at 1:00 p.m.
