OBERLIN, Ohio (Oct. 10) – The Denison University field hockey team scored three times in the second half to secure a 3-0 road victory over Oberlin in North Coast Athletic Conference action Thursday afternoon.
The win improves Denison to 4-1 in conference play and 5-6 overall. Oberlin drops to 0-6 in the NCAC and 0-9 overall.
The Big Red held advantages in shots (23-0), shots on goal (15-0) and penalty corners (23-0).
Despite the differentials, Denison had difficulty finishing in the first half, leaving the game scoreless at halftime. The Big Red held 10-0 advantage in shots and recorded 13 penalty corner chances in the first half.

Emma Gebhart wasted little time getting Denison on the scoreboard in the third quarter. Gebhart tallied her ninth goal of the season just 1:44 into the third.

Reilly Desmond notched her third goal of the season to stretch the lead to 2-0 with just a little more than 10 minutes to play.
The visitors then scored again a little more than three-minutes later when sophomore attack/midfield
Lila Smith found the back of the cage. Smith's goal was her seventh of the season. Her goal came off a penalty stroke attempt.

Athena Joannou and the Denison defensive unit registered their third shutout of the season, all of which have come in conference play.
