CLEVELAND, Ohio (September 23, 2023) – The Denison University men's soccer team lost for the first time this season as the Big Red came up short, 1-0, at No. 25 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University on Saturday at DiSanto Field.
Case struck early with a goal by Sean Wilson just 11 minutes in while Denison's only two shots on goal in the match came via
Cole Trigg in the final two minutes before halftime and
Kameron Kist in the 82nd minute.
Denison's final shot was missed high by
Zarius Eusebe in the 87th minute.
Goalkeeper
Tommy Prokos recorded two saves in each half to finish with four saves in total for the second match in a row against a nationally-ranked opponent.
Head Coach
Brandon Bianco said after the match, "It wasn't our day today. CWRU is a good team and we were second best on the day. We'll regroup and move forward into the new week."
In addition to falling short in its quest to remain undefeated eight matches into the season for the first time since 2015, Denison saw its record drop to 6-1-1 overall on the season while Case's improved to 6-1-1.
Denison's final nonconference match of the regular season will feature a short road trip over to Otterbein University for a 5 p.m. kickoff on Wednesday, September 27. Then that weekend on Saturday, September 30, the Big Red will open up North Coast Athletic Conference play at Hiram College (3 p.m.).
