GRANVILLE, Ohio (September 19, 2023) – Denison University field hockey tallied its fourth straight shutout and third straight win to open conference play on Tuesday after defeating Oberlin College, 2-0, at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium in Granville.
Denison (4-2 overall, 3-0 NCAC) opened the scoring less than two minutes in when a penalty corner by
Kate Hinshaw led to a goal by freshman
Lila Smith, her third goal in the last two games for the Big Red.
Then in the final minute before halftime, another penalty corner by Hinshaw led to the first-career goal for sophomore
Katherine Flanagan to make it 2-0.
The Big Red outshot Oberlin (0-5, 0-3) 21-0 in the first half but just 9-0 in the second, and put up eight of their 17 penalty corners in the third quarter.
Hinshaw led the team with five shot attempts while Gebhart,
Cary Mauck and
Abigail Hano each had four.
In addition, for the second game in a row, Smith put all of her shot attempts on goal (3).
Next up, the Big Red will finish off their current three-game homestand at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, against Kenyon College, during Denison field hockey's Alumnae & Family Weekend.
