GRANVILLE, Ohio (September 16, 2023) – The first North Coast Athletic Conference game at home of the 2023 season for the Denison University field hockey team saw the Big Red race to a 5-0 win over Allegheny College on Saturday inside Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
Denison (3-2 overall, 2-0 NCAC) outshot Allegheny (2-4, 1-1) 8-0 in the first quarter and saw goals by
Lila Smith (5th) minute and
Nina Casingal (15th minute) to take a 2-0 lead after the opening 15 minutes.
Smith added her second goal in the 18th minute before
Emma Gebhart scored twice in the third quarter.
Gebhart's first goal was assisted on by Smith, giving her five points on the game.
Tabitha Chandler recorded a game-high five shot attempts while Smith put all four of her attempts on target.
Athena Joannou recorded her third straight shutout win and her third game in a row with four saves.
Next up, Denison will take on the middle game of a three-game homestand as the Big Red battle against Oberlin College starting at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, in Granville.
