BEXLEY, Ohio (April 8, 2023) – The Denison University softball team split its two games at Capital University on Saturday afternoon, winning game one 8-0 before falling in game number two by a score of 6-5 at Clowson Field.

Game 1 (Denison 8, Capital 0):
- Denison loaded the bases with just one out in the first inning before Indy Workman came up with a two-run single through the right side to start the scoring.
- Two errors on the Comet's shortstop led to two more runs for the Big Red in the third inning, and then Jacqui Abogado came up with a solo home run to left field with two outs in the fourth inning.
- In the top of the seventh inning, Alessandra Groome led off with a single down the left field line, and then with two outs, Maggie Ballentine also singled down the left field line and brought home Groome with what was her 100th career collegiate hit.
- Abogado finished 2-for-4 and scored three times while Groome added a 2-for-4 effort and Brianna Gonzalez swiped two bases.
- Sydney Silverstein (6-3) limited Capital to just three hits while not walking any batters and earning her fifth complete game and second shutout of the season.

Game 2 (Denison 5, Capital 6):
- Denison again scored in the first inning as Annabelle Calderon singled to left field with two outs to score Gonzalez from second base before Workman again made her presence felt in the opening inning as she smacked a two-run homer to left center field to make it 3-0 Big Red.
- Capital, however, tied it at 3-3 after a two-out, two-run home run to left field of its own in the third inning.
- In the fifth inning, the Comets got a solo home run to center field with one out before adding two unearned runs on a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch to double up the score at 6-3.
- With two outs in the seventh inning, Ballentine doubled to left center field before scoring on an error at shortstop and a muffed throw by the catcher on the ensuing at bat.
- Abogado followed with an RBI-double down the left field line to get Denison to within one with the tying run in scoring position, but a pitching change for Capital was followed by a flyout to center field to end it.

- Denison's record moves to 10-8 overall while Capital's goes to 5-9.

Next Up: Denison will again play on the road in nonconference action as the Big Red take on Waynesburg University starting at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11.
