WOOSTER, Ohio (April 11, 2023) – The Denison University women's lacrosse team turned in one of its most impressive outings of the season in a 18-7 victory at the College of Wooster on Tuesday evening as the Big Red improved to 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
It was the first conference game of the season for Wooster (9-2 overall, 0-1 NCAC), but it was Denison (4-8 overall) that got off to a great start with a 5-1 advantage after the first quarter.
Allaire Kotz scored the first goal of the game less than a minute and a half in, assisted on a goal by
Maddie Morrell just 40 seconds later to make it 2-0 Big Red, and then scored the second of back-to-back Denison goals in a span of less than 40 seconds to make it 4-1 with eight minutes left in the first quarter.

Emma Repke made it 7-2 Big Red less than four minutes into the second quarter. Then after Wooster cut it to three (7-4) with seven and a half minutes left until halftime, Denison widened the gap to 11-4 with four goals in the final five minutes of the period, two of which were by Kotz, bringing her total up to four goals at the break.
The 4-0 run for the Big Red then became a 9-0 run as Denison scored the first five goals of the second half, with the first one coming from Kotz before back-to-back goals by
Josie Lucchesi and then a goal by
Jane Bailey assisted on by Kotz. The final goal of the run came off the stick of
Ashley Viglione, her second goal of the game and making the score 16-4 with 5:35 left in the third quarter.
Viglione added an assist on a goal by
Madison Goldstein to make it 17-6 with 9:25 left in the fourth quarter, and then Goldstein assisted on the final goal of the game by
Mary Martinson in the final minute.
Kotz finished with five goals and two assists to lead the way while Bailey added four points (1 goal, 3 assists). Morrell, Lucchesi and Viglione each finished with two goals and one assist while Repke and Martinson both scored twice as well.
Abby Van Metre scooped up four groundballs and also led Denison with five draw controls.
In goal,
Caroline O'Dea only allowed four goals and made six saves for a .600 save percentage.
Aa a team, Denison was 6-for-11 on free position shots compared to 1-for-3 for Wooster, and finished with 10 caused turnovers compared to just four for the Fighting Scots. The Big Red also limited Wooster to just a 50 percent conversion rate (10-for-20) on clear attempts.
Next up for Denison will be another road game, this time at Oberlin College starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 15.
