GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 11, 2023) – No. 18 Denison University dispatched visiting Oberlin College 19-6 on Tuesday night from Piper Stadium in Granville, Ohio. That improves Denison's record to 8-3 on the year and 2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Denison outscored Oberlin 4-0 in the first quarter via goals from
Brooks Crowley,
Ethan Tyack,
Will Kenney and
Andrew Brim. In that opening quarter,
Luke Fisher assisted on two of the goals while the Big Red won 4-of-5 faceoffs. Denison also forced the Yeomen to commit six turnovers in each of the first two quarters.
Tyack scored his second goal of the night to make it 5-0 early in the second quarter, and then the Big Red flexed their muscle by scoring five goals in the final two minutes of the first half to make it 10-2 at halftime. Two of those goals were by
Gavin Pappas, both assisted by Fisher.
In addition to Fisher's six points (1 goal, 5 assists), senior
Quinn O'Donnell notched his first-career hat trick while Pappas, Tyack, Kenney,
Jack Hines and
Tommy Quinson (2 goals, 2 assists) each scored twice.
In the faceoff circle,
Grant Larson was 16-for-19 with 10 groundballs while
Colin MacLean was 8-for-10 with six groundballs.
Denison's defensive stalwarts,
Douglas Brooks and Crowley, finished with five and three caused turnovers, respectively.
Next up, the Big Red will host the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University for their annual rivalry game. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, in Granville. OWU will bring a record of 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC into the matchup.
