GETTYSBURG, Pa. (February 25, 2023) – The No. 19 Denison University women's lacrosse team took on its second nationally-ranked opponent in a row to open the 2023 season, and this one also featured a rematch of last year's NCAA Sweet 16 matchup for the Big Red, but in the end, No. 5 Gettysburg College was simply too much for Denison to handle in a 14-1 defeat on a snowy Saturday afternoon on Clark Field.

Gettysburg (2-1 overall) would score just 15 seconds into the game and netted four goals in the opening four minutes of the contest.

It was then 5-0 after the first quarter and was 6-0 after the third goal of the first half by Gettysburg's Jordan Basso just over four minutes into the second quarter before the Big Red shut out the Bullets for the final 10 minutes of the first half.

Denison (0-2) had three shots on goal in the second quarter before being held to without a shot attempt in the third quarter. Gettysburg, meanwhile, would not let up and reached the 10-goal mark just five minutes into the third quarter.

Then with 2:10 remaining in the game, freshman Carly LaPierre's first-career goal helped the Big Red avoid the shutout.

Junior Kate Coward led the Big Red with two caused turnovers and sophomore Liz Hinton led with two groundballs.

Next up, Denison will remain in the state of Pennsylvania to play at Dickinson College at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Sunday, February 26.
