CARLISLE, Pa. (February 26, 2023) – The No. 19 Denison University women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-12 contest on the road at Dickinson College after a six-goal third quarter for the Red Devils.
Denison (0-3 overall) led 8-6 at halftime after two goals by
Mary Martinson in the first quarter, back-to-back goals by
Jane Lukens and
Ashley Viglione only 30 seconds apart midway through the second quarter, and back-to-back goals by
Allaire Kotz and
Maddie Morrell in the final few minutes before the intermission.
However, after Viglione scored again to make it 9-6 Big Red just under two and a half minutes into the third quarter, Dickinson (2-0) scored six straight goals to take a three-goal lead of its own (9-6).
Grayson O'Marra finally broke the stretch of six straight goals by the Red Devils with a goal in the final nine seconds of the third quarter, and then Kotz answered an early fourth-quarter goal by Dickinson one minute later to keep it at a two-score game (13-11).
That score would hold steady until a caused turnover by
Annie Rau led to the third goal of the game by Martinson with only 43 seconds left.
Unfortunately, Dickinson would win the ensuing draw control and was then able to run out the clock to clinch the win.
Kotz would finish the game with two goals and four assists for Denison while Rau and
Sydney Lavin both finished with two caused turnovers.
Up next for the Big Red is a matchup against their third nationally-ranked opponent of the season, the No. 17-ranked University of Chicago, in a showdown inside Deeds Field-Piper Stadium at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 4.
