BEXLEY, Ohio (November 15, 2023) – A 19-0 second-half run was enough for Capital University to defeat the Denison University men's basketball team by a final score of 75-58 on Wednesday night inside The Capital Center.

The first half featured seven lead changes until a 14-0 run for Capital beginning with a 3-pointer with 5:26 to go in the first half and ending with another 3-pointer with 1:58 on the clock made it a 42-29 Comets' lead. Capital was 5-for-5 from the field and 3-for-3 from three during the run while Denison was 0-for-7 overall and 0-for-4 from three.

In all, Denison only made one of its final 14 shots in the first half while Capital, which led by 14 points at halftime (44-30), finished the first half shooting 55.2 percent overall and was 6-for-13 from three (46.2 percent), and then immediately opened up the second half with another 3-pointer to make it 47-30.

Denison battled back in the second half as a stretch of eight straight points started what was ultimately a 15-2 run to get the Big Red to within three (53-50) seven minutes into the half after a layup by Tyler Miller.

Denison was 7-for-8 from the field during the run, which featured four points from Miller and four from Ricky Radtke and included the third 3-pointer of the game by Cameron Smith, but from there, the Big Red could not buy a bucket as Capital answered back with an 11-0 run to make it a 14-point game again (64-50) with 10 minutes left to play. That stretch for Capital saw the Comets make all three of their shot attempts, hit their eighth 3-pointer of the game and go 4-for-4 from the free throw line after a technical foul on the Big Red early in the run cost them their momentum.

Capital continued to punish the Big Red as a hook shot by Justin Nixon made it 66-50, and then an offensive rebound and layup by Baden Forup made it 68-50 with seven minutes to go. The Comets pushed their lead to 20 (70-50) with five and a half minutes to play, and then the third straight layup by Forup made it 72-50 with under four minutes remaining.

The Big Red were 0-for-12 from the field and 0-for-5 from three during the 19-0 run for the Comets and were scoreless for over 13 minutes. In addition, the Big Red missed 13 of their last 14 shots from 3-point range starting with four and a half minutes left in the first half.

Smith led Denison with a career-high 15 points on 50 percent shooting both from the field (6-12) and from three (3-6) while Radtke scored 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting and Miller added 10 points.

Capital remains undefeated on the season at 4-0 while Denison suffers its third loss in a row against the Comets and falls to 1-2 on the year.

After three road games to start the season, Denison will now welcome No. 13-ranked Case Western Reserve University into Livingston Gymnasium for its home opener at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 18.
