GREENSCASTLE, Ind. (October 11, 2023) – A weather delay in the final 15 minutes resulted in a 1-1 draw between the Denison University women's soccer team and DePauw University in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Reavis Stadium.
DePauw came out firing with back-to-back blocked shots in the third minute while Denison's only shot of the first 44 minutes of the match was a shot missed wide right by
Kendall Sierens in the 14th minute.
Molly Noga made her first save of the match in the 28th minute as DePauw had four of the first five shots of the night.
After scoring the fourth and final goal of Denison's win over Kenyon on Saturday,
Kate Dalimonte stepped up for a free kick in the final minute of the first half on Wednesday and fired a long shot from approximately 30 yards out. Just like Denison did three times on Saturday, the shot got past the goalie to the top-right corner of the goal.
DePauw came out firing to try and find the equalizer early in the second half as Noga made her second save in the 48th minute, and then after a shot by
Callie Davis was saved in the 53rd minute, DePauw was able to tie it with a low shot in the 56th minute.
Denison tried to answer back as shots by Sierens and
Eliza Roach were saved in the 59th and 60th minutes, respectively, while another shot by Davis was blocked in the 61st minute.
Noga made two more saves in the 64th in the 75th minutes to bring her total to four before the match was halted and then ultimately called final due to continuous lightning within the area and the inability to warm up and restart before the 10 p.m. deadline.
Denison was outshot 4-2 in the first half and 10-7 in all while both teams had three corner kicks.
Denison's record moves to 4-2-5 overall DePauw, which is ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches Region VII poll, goes to 8-2-3. In addition, both teams are now 1-0-1 in the NCAC.
Denison will finish off the week at the College of Wooster with kickoff slated for 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 14.
