Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Denison falls 3-1 at No. 14 Case Western Reserve

CLEVELAND, Ohio (September 27, 2022) – The Denison University women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 contest at No. 14 Case Western Reserve University on a windy and rainy Tuesday evening in Cleveland, Ohio.

The first shot of the match came courtesy of Maddie Reap three and a half minutes in that sailed wide left.

However, just a minute and a half later, it would be the Spartans taking an early 1-0 lead. After a quick pass found Camryn Hartman at about the 30-yard mark, she rushed down toward the goal for a cross opportunity, where in the box waiting was Ceci Dapino, who was able to finish in the top right of the goal.

Then in the 12th minute, Case added another goal as Helina VanBibber was able to get her pass just past the Denison defense where it found Hartman, who was able to run into the box and finish bottom right to make it 2-0.

Wynne Hague was able to save the next three shots from the Spartans at the 14th, 15th and 30th minutes, respectfully.

The 20th minute saw the Big Red get their first shot on goal thanks to Callie Davis, whose shot was easily saved by the Spartans' goalie Maggie Storti. Then after another save by Hague in the 31st minute and a shot by Case that hit the post in the 39th minute, Ava Wood provided Denison's second shot on goal that was again saved by Storti in the 43rd minute.

The 53rd minute saw Dulcie Heyes' shot attempt saved by Storti, and then Davis fired back-to-back shots, the first of which was miraculously saved by Storti before the ball came right back to Davis whose next shot was just wide of the net.

Then after the new Big Red goalkeeper Molly Noga made her first save three minutes after entering the match in the 54th minute, a free kick from Kate Dalimonte found Ellie Reiser, who then made a nice pass to Katie Harding, who floated a goal right over Storti to cut the deficit to 2-1 and bring Denison to within one with 20 minutes to go.

Unfortunately, in the 83rd minute, Hartman added her second goal of the day as she was able to beat Noga and finish in the bottom right. It was the only shot on goal that Noga was unable to stop as she finished with a career-high four saves in 36 minutes of action while Hartman finished with five points and had a leg in all three of the Spartan's goals.

Denison fell to 0-7-2 on the season while Case Western Reserve improved to 8-0. This was the first matchup between the Big Red and the Spartans since 2018, a 2-1 win by Denison that coincidentally was the last defeat in nonconference action for Case, which has now won 32 consecutive regular-season nonconference matches, having not lost in over four years. The Spartans are also currently one of seven remaining unbeaten and untied teams in NCAA Division III.

Denison will now have a week off before returning home for its final nonconference match of the season against Asbury University (Ky.) on Tuesday, October 4, at 4:30 p.m.
