TIFFIN, Ohio (September 21, 2022) – For the third time in the last five matches, senior middle hitter Lucy Anderson recorded 20 or more kills as she helped the Denison University volleyball team earn a 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 25-21, 27-25) victory on the road at Heidelberg University on Wednesday night inside Seiberling Gymnasium.

The Big Red were dominant offensively in the first and third sets as they finished the opening set with 15 kills and only three attack errors (.353 percent) before finishing with 13 kills and only two errors in the third set (.355 percent).

The decisive run for Denison in the first set was a 7-0 stretch featuring four kills by Anderson, including the last of which to make it 21-13 Big Red.

In the third set, Denison trailed 19-17 before a 7-1 run featuring three attack errors, a service error and a bad set by Heidelberg brought up set point at 24-20, which led to another kill by Anderson to give the Big Red a 2-1 advantage.

In the fourth set, Denison answered a 5-0 run for Heidelberg with a 4-0 run starting with two kills by Sidney Gossard and then ending with a kill by Kelly McCaskey to get within one at 19-18. Then after a kill by Anderson got it a one-point deficit at 21-20, a service ace by Alice Kempf tied it at 21-21.

After a huge block by Heidelberg gave them a two-point lead in the fourth set at 23-21, a powerful kill by Anderson made it 23-22, a service error by Heidelberg made it 24-23, and then an ace by Anderson, Denison's fifth service ace of the fourth set, tied it at 24-24.

From there, a clutch kill by Corinne Boyd gave the Big Red match point, and then after the two teams traded service errors, Kirby MacKinnon went back to serve, and an assisted block by Boyd and Gossard sent the Big Red home as winners.

In the end, Anderson tied her career-high notched last week with 21 kills while hitting .486 percent. Gossard was next with 10 kills and a .304 hitting percentage while MacKinnon dished out 47 assists and Jenna Corrao finished with 26 digs.
