HAMBURG, N.Y. (September 10, 2022) – Powered by a 42-point first half and over 500 yards of total offense, the Denison University football team rolled to a 63-0 shutout victory over a first-year football program in Hilbert College during its first road game of the 2022 season on Saturday. Denison improves to 2-0 while Hilbert suffered a tough loss in its first game in program history.
Denison scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters, rushed for 278 yards in the game and finished with 549 yards of total offense.
Quarterback
Drew Dawkins completed 12-of-19 passes for 213 yards and four touchdowns, each of which came in the first half, and running back
Trey Fabrocini rushed for 120 yards while scoring three times on the ground and adding a 26-yard touchdown reception as well.
Dawkins found
Billy Guzzo for a 51-yard touchdown three plays into the game, and then after a stop by
Jonathan Bearden on fourth-and-one on Hilbert's first possession, Fabrocini broke the plane for his first of two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter as he added a 40-yard score on the next Big Red possession.
To start the second quarter, Dawkins found Guzzo again for another score, this one from 13 yards out, and then Denison's next possession saw Dawkins find Fabrocini through the air for the third touchdown of the first half for both players.
Dawkins then made it four passing touchdowns and a 6-for-6 start to the game for Denison with a 21-yard hookup to
Josh Aiello just before the half.
After Bearden came up with an interception on the first possession of the second half, Denison made it 7-for-7 as Fabrocini scored from 10 yards out.
On defense,
Collin Hill and
Sam Secrest both finished with five total tackles and 1.5 tackles per loss while
Jack Nimesheim had four tackles and a sack.
Next up, Denison will return home to open up North Coast Athletic Conference action against Oberlin College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 17. The Big Red have won each of their last six conference openers, dating back to a 45-0 win at home over Oberlin in 2015.
