Denison wins battle of 3-0 conference teams at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio (April 12, 2022) – Backed by seven points from Ethan Tyack and four points from three other players, the Denison University men's lacrosse team improved to 4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with its second conference win on the road so far this season as the Big Red defeated Oberlin College by a final score of 16-9 on Tuesday night.

In what began as a matchup between two of the three 3-0 teams in NCAC play, the Big Red were off and running from the start, scoring seven straight goals to start the game by six different players before Oberlin finally got on the board with under a minute left in the first quarter.

Luke Fisher had three assists during Denison's big first quarter while Tyack had one goal and two assists. Jack Chace, meanwhile, netted back-to-back goals less than a minute apart to make it 3-0 only 4:10 into the game.

Then after the first two goals of the second quarter went to the Yeomen, a trio of goals by Gavin Pappas, Tyack and Camden Bowdy in the final 2:31 of the quarter made it a 10-3 Denison lead at halftime. Additionally, Tyack added an assist on the goal by Bowdy less than a minute before halftime to give him six points (2 goals, 4 assists) at the break.

In the end, Tyack added one more goal in the third quarter to tie his career-high with seven points on the night while also adding two caused turnovers.

Additionally, Bowdy and Nate Kay both had two goals and two assists and Fisher finished with four assists. Pappas would finish with three goals for his first career hat trick while Tommy Quinson had the first two-goal and three-point game of his career.

Davis Cronin was 16-for-19 on faceoffs with 11 groundballs while Colin MacLean was 9-for-9 on faceoffs with six groundballs.

In addition to moving to 4-0 in the NCAC, Denson improved to 8-4 overall on the season and an incredible 53-0 against Oberlin since 1965. The Yeomen, meanwhile, who had not lost since February 26 at Albion, fell to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
