LEXINGTON, Va. (March 5, 2022) – After starting its new 2022 season with two home wins to move up one spot to No. 18 in the latest USILA/Dynamic 2022 Men's Coaches Division III Poll this week, the Denson University men's lacrosse team played on the road for the first time this year and came away with an 11-7 victory at Washington and Lee University on Saturday.
Denison scored the first two goals of the game and led 3-2 after a trio of goals by the teams in the final two minutes of the first quarter, but it was the second quarter that made the difference as the Big Red outscored the Generals 5-0 in the period.
The 5-0 run then became an 8-0 run with three goals to start the third quarter that all but put the game away at 11-2.
Clyde Bresnahan,
Ethan Tyack and
Nate Kay each scored twice for the Big Red while Tyack added two assists for a total of four points and Kay added one assist for a total of three points. Additionally, preseason All-American selection
Camden Bowdy recorded two assists for the second game in a row.
Sean Bailey led Denison in ground balls with seven while
Davis Cronin had six and Tyack had five.
Goalkeeper
TJ Spahn improved to 2-0 after playing all 60 minutes and making twice as many saves (14) as goals allowed (7).
With the win, Denison improves to 3-0 and has now won four straight games against Washington and Lee (1-3) since 2018. It was the first game against the Generals for Denison's new head coach
Eric Koch and assistant coach
Ryan Rohde since coming to Granville from Washington and Lee this year.
Next Saturday on March 12, the Big Red will play in a second straight road game, this time against a nationally-ranked opponent in the form of No. 13 Stevenson University at 7 p.m. in Owings Mills, Maryland. It will be Denison's first game this year against a fellow-nationally-ranked team, and it will be the first of three straight such games for the boys from Granville.
