No. 19 women’s lacrosse finishes Spring Break trip with win over Rowan

HAINES CITY, Fla. (March 18, 2022) – The No. 19 Denison University women's lacrosse team finished 2-1 during its Spring Break trip to Florida following its 12-10 win over Rowan University on Friday at the Feltrim Sports Village.

After only one goal by each team in the first quarter, the two teams combined for nine goals in the second quarter before Denison outscored Rowan 5-2 in the third quarter and had a 4-0 run between the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth to take control.

Tied at 8-8 with under two minutes left in the third quarter, Casey McTague assisted on a goal by Allaire Kotz to put the Big Red ahead, and then Kotz scored on a free position shot in the final 20 seconds of the period to make it 10-8 Denison.

The fourth quarter then started with back-to-back goals by Jane Bailey, assisted by Ryann Yospa and Maddie Morrell, respectively, to make it 12-8 just over four minutes in.

Bailey led the Big Red with three goals while McTague, Morrell, Josie Lucchesi and Kotz each had two.

Caroline O'Dea (1-0) played the second half in goal to earn the win for the Big Red.

In the end, Rowan outshot Denison 34-27 and limited the Big Red to just four groundballs, but it was Denison that got back to .500 on the season at 3-3 while the Profs, who were receiving votes in this week's IWLCA National Poll, fell to 2-4. In addition to avoiding falling to 2-4 for the first time 2016, Denison is now 3-1 all-time against Rowan, including a close 16-15 win during Denison's Spring Fling trip in 2019.

Denison will now return home for three straight home games, starting on Wednesday, March 23, at 4 p.m. in nonconference action against John Carroll University before opening up North Coast Athletic Conference play against Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, March 26.
