Coach Daniels earns 100th career win at Denison as No. 12 women’s lacrosse beats Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. (February 27, 2022) – The No. 12 Denison University women's lacrosse team not only claimed a 17-11 victory on the road at Dickinson College to earn its first win of the new 2022 season, but the Big Red also celebrated Amanda Daniels' 100th career win as the head coach at Denison.

Dickinson (1-2 overall) kept up with Denison (1-1) in the first half until the Big Red flexed their muscle with a game-deciding 5-0 run to end the third quarter.

Casey McTague scored four goals in the first half, including each of Denison's final three of the half with back-to-back goals late in the second quarter to put the Big Red up 6-5 before the Red Devils tied it at 6-6 just 16 seconds before the break.

Then just over a minute and a half into the third quarter, Ashley Viglione scored to put Denison ahead 7-6; and then starting at the 10-minue mark, back-to-back goals by Josie Lucchesi and Maddie Morrell made it 9-7 Big Red.

McTague netted her fifth and sixth goals of the game, the first on the second assist by Jane Bailey and then the second on an assist by Viglione to make it 11-7 with a little over four and a half minutes left in the third quarter. Ana Ortiz DeRosa then made it a 5-0 Denison run to end the third quarter as she made it 12-7.

The Big Red then went on to lead by as many as seven (16-9) in the fourth quarter after back-to-back goals by Morrell and Viglione still with over five minutes left. Morrell would add one more goal in the final two minutes to give her four for the game.

Denison would outscore Dickinson 6-1 in the third quarter and 11-5 in the second half.

Viglione finished with two goals and an assist, Bailey had one goal and two assists, and Lucchesi had one goal and one assist.

In addition to her six goals, McTague led the Big Red with six groundballs, six draw controls, three caused turnovers, and a 2-for-2 mark on free positions shots.

Next up for Denison will be its 2022 home opener against No. 16 nationally-ranked SUNY Brockport at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 5.
