GRANVILLE, Ohio (February 19, 2022) – The No. 18 Denison University men's lacrosse team started off the
Eric Koch era on a high note, finishing with a 9-6 win on a cold day inside Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
With the score tied at 3-3 at halftime, Denison (1-0 overall) came out of the locker room red hot and scored the first four goals of the third quarter, two of which were by junior
Will Kenney assisted by fellow-junior
Ethan Tyack.
The final goal of the 4-0 stretch for Denison came off the stick of
Camden Bowdy to make the score 7-3 with 8:19 left in the third quarter. Bowdy begins his senior campaign after being named an Honorable Mention Preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse
Then after a pair of goals by Baldwin Wallace (0-1) to cut its deficit in half at 7-5, Bowdy scored his second goal of the quarter and Denison's fifth of the period to make it 8-5.
After Baldwin Wallace got back to within two again with a goal with 4:44 left in the fourth quarter, the final goal of the game came from sophomore
Luke Fisher, who finished off his season-opening hat trick with a score with only three minutes remaining.
Fisher finished with 10 shots for the Big Red while Kenney added six. Senior
Davis Cronin won 12 of his 17 faceoffs and finished with nine ground balls while another senior,
Sean Bailey, had three groundballs and three caused turnovers.
In between the pipes, junior
Archer Darrach finished with 17 saves on 23 shots on goal by the Yellow Jackets.
In addition to being the fifth straight season-opening win for Denison, it was the first career head coaching victory for Coach Koch after joining the Big Red from Washington and Lee University.
Denison will remain on Deeds Field-Piper Stadium next weekend for its second straight home game to open the year as this time, the Big Red battle Rhodes College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 26.
