WOOSTER, Ohio (February 16, 2022) – The Denison University men's basketball team kicked off a stretch of three road games in four days to close out its 2021-22 regular season by traveling to take on the College of Wooster, which began the day tied with Ohio Wesleyan University for second place in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings. In the end, the Fighting Scots handled the Big Red by a final score of 67-56 to snap Denison's four-game winning streak.
Wooster made 10 of its first 16 shots (62.5 percent) from the field and five of its first seven 3-pointers (71.4 percent) to lead it 25-18 with just under eight minutes left in the first half.
Then after the sixth 3-pointer of the first half by Wooster on only 10 attempts made it an 11-point game at 36-25, 3-pointers by
Will Hunter and
Scotty Dean in the final two minutes helped Denison get to within six at halftime at 32-28.
After Wooster shot 51.6 percent (16-31) from the field and 50 percent (6-12) from three in the first half, it was their defense that helped make the difference in the second half as the Big Red were limited to only 27.59 percent (8-29) shooting from the field over the final 20 minutes.
The deciding run in the second half was an 8-0 stretch over a two-and-a-half minute span that made it a 15-point game (56-41) with under 10 minutes to go.
Then with seven minutes left, a 3-pointer by
Dre Rodgers made it a 10-point game at 56-46, but two more threes by the Fighting Scots made it a 16-point game (62-46) with five minutes to play.
Rodgers and
Freeman Brou both scored 10 points for the Big Red while Dean added nine points and
Tyler Miller had eight points and a game-high eight rebounds.
With the loss, Denison fell to 10-12 overall and 9-7 in the NCAC while Wooster improved to 16-8 and 12-5 with the victory.
With only two games remaining in its regular season, Denison will now head to Oberlin College for a makeup game scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, February 18.
