Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

McIntosh’s game-winner leads Big Red over Tigers

GRANVILLE, Ohio (October 25, 2022) – Playing in its final home match of the 2022 regular season, the Denison University men's soccer team came away with a 3-2 win over DePauw University thanks to the game-winning goal by Cameron McIntosh in the 83rd minute on Tuesday evening at Barclay-Thomsen Field. With the win, Denison (9-4-3 overall, 4-2-1 NCAC) remains in the fourth spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings with one match to go.

After DePauw (5-7-6 overall, 0-5-2 NCAC) tied the match at 2-2 in the 68th minute, the match looked like it was destined to turn into a tie until McIntosh fired off three shots in a row in the 83rd minute and finally got the last one to land into the back of the net.

Then in the final six minutes, goalkeeper Tommy Prokos made his final two saves of the night to help preserve the one-goal victory.

Earlier in the match after the Big Red fell behind 1-0 with a goal by the Tigers in the 28th minute, Denison wasted no time coming up with a response as Ethan Miracle scored just over 40 seconds later. Then just under five and a half minutes later, Rohan Tripathy scored on the assist from Vitor Rocha to put the Big Red ahead 2-1 in the 34th minute.

Despite Denison outshooting DePauw by seven (12-5) in the first half and by eight (14-6) in the second half, the Tigers made a game of it and did their best to shake up the NCAC standings. In the end, Denison had only a one shot advantage (9-8) on shots on goal for the match.

Head Coach Brandon Bianco said, "Credit to DePauw, whose record isn't reflective of their team. They pushed us and forced us to find goals when we needed them. I'm proud of our response and our ambition to keep chasing the game."

The Big Red were led by a trio of players (McIntosh, Miracle, Henri Heyes) with four shots each while Jake Krueger added three and Niko Argyros, Lorenz Hoover, Corey Brunner and Phil Koutsaftis each had two. In goal, Prokos would finish with six saves.

For the second season in a row, Denison will wrap up the regular season on the road at the College of Wooster. This time, the Big Red and the Fighting Scots will kick off at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 29.
