GRANVILLE, Ohio (October 15, 2022) – Highlighted by a combined 25 kills from
Kelly McCaskey and
Lucy Anderson to go along with 30 assists by
Sophie Tight, Denison University volleyball remained undefeated in the North Coast Athletic Conference after defeating Oberlin College 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-21) on Saturday at Livingston Gymnasium. It was senior day for Anderson,
Jenna Corrao,
Sidney Gossard,
Natalie Hutras and Tight, who were each recognized prior to the start of the match.
In addition to Tight's 30 assists in only three sets and Anderson's loaded line of 12 kills, eight blocks, four service aces and a .435 attack percentage, the other Senior Day performances on Saturday saw Corraro finish with 12 digs and three aces while Hutras finished with seven kills and Gossard added three assisted blocks, two kills and two digs.
Oberlin led 16-8 after a 12-2 run in the first set, forcing the Big Red to have to come from behind and win it on an 8-2 run, including four straight points to close it out on back-to-back kills by McCaskey, an ace by McCaskey, and then an Oberlin attack error.
Denison then carried its momentum into the second set, where the Big Red led 8-1 and 12-4 to start and then went up 17-9 before eventually closing it out on a 6-3 run featuring four kills by McCaskey and ending with a kill by
Cailey Johns.
Late in the third set, Denison led by only one at 22-21 before a Yeowoman service error followed by back-to-back kills by Hutras to close out her Senior Day in style.
With its fifth straight sweep overall and fourth straight three-set win to start conference action, Denison improves to above .500 overall on the season at 10-9 while also moving to 4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Oberlin, meanwhile, falls to 7-11 and 0-4.

In 2021, Anderson had a season to remember as she was named First-Team All-NCAC, was the first player in program history to earn NCAC Player of the Year, was an all-region selection, and became the first All-American in program history after being named to the Third-Team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. As a freshman in 2019, Anderson was named the NCAC Newcomer of the Year while also earning first-team all-conference for the first time in her career and being named to the NCAC All-Tournament Team. A three-time NCAC Athlete of the Week, Anderson was inducted into Denison's Chi Alpha Sigma Chapter in 2021-22. She has been named to the NCAC Academic Honor Roll while also being recognized as a Denison Top-50 Scholar-Athlete in both 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Jenna Corrao has recorded 1,299 digs, good for an average of 4.90 digs per set, and has tallied 210 assists and 86 service aces. In 2021, Corrao finished with a career-high 481 digs while being named Second-Team All-NCAC and earning a spot on the NCAC All-Tournament Team. Corrao was named to the NCAC Academic Honor Roll in both 2020-21 and 2021-22, and was a 2021-22 Chi Alpha Sigma inductee.

As a freshman in 2019, Gossard finished third on the team with 176 kills, was second with 40 service aces, and had a career-high 16 kills on September 14 versus Albion before being named to the NCAC All-Tournament Team. Gossard has been named to the NCAC Academic Honor Roll while also being recognized as a Denison Top-50 Scholar-Athlete in both 2020-21 and 2021-22. She was also inducted into Denison's Chi Alpha Sigma chapter in 2021-22.

Natalie Hutras has tallied 173 kills, 115 digs and 28 blocks, including a career-high 102 kills, 71 digs and 13 blocks so far this season. Hutras finished with a career-high 12 kills earlier this year against Ohio Northern, and had a career-best 15 digs against Albion.

Sophie Tight has tallied 1,372 assists, 377 digs, 69 kills, 46 blocks and 34 service aces. As a freshman in 2019, Tight led the Big Red and was fourth in the NCAC with 827 assists while her 9.51 assists per set was good for first in the league, leading to her earning Honorable Mention All-NCAC honors. In the Covid shortened 2020-21 season, Tight set a career-high with 51 assists on April 1 versus Ohio Wesleyan.
