GRANVILLE, Ohio (October 15, 2022) – Madeleine Hunt and Grace Lock each tallied a goal as Denison University field hockey posted a 2-0 shutout victory over the College of Wooster on Saturday at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium. 

The Big Red took six penalty corners in the first quarter but were unable to get on the scoreboard until the final minute of the first half when Hunt's initial shot was blocked before she grabbed the loose ball and was able to finish with the goal on her second attempt.

Then less than five minutes into the third quarter, Lock ran around a few different defenders and scored from just inside the blue line to make it 2-0.

Wooster did not get its first shot of the game until the 48th minute and saw both of its attempts in the fourth quarter blocked away by the Big Red defense, which also allowed only one penalty corner all game.

Denison, meanwhile, finished with 12 penalty corners, 13 total shots and eight shots on goal.

Hunt led the way with one-third of those 12 shots while Abigail Hano added three shots and matched Hunt with two shots on goal.

In addition to improving to 8-4 overall on the season, 3-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and 7-0 at home, Denison has now won eight in a row over Wooster with six shutouts in their last seven meetings. Wooster, which was coming off a 2-1 overtime win at home over Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday, which made them the 12th NCAA Division III program to reach 600 wins, fell to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in the NCAC.

Next up, the Big Red will hit the road for a pair of road games next week, beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, at Earlham College, before playing at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 21, at Oberlin College.
