DELAWARE, Ohio (January 26, 2022) – Playing in what will be its only game this week, the Denison University women's basketball team fell 83-62 on the road at Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday night.
Ohio Wesleyan (13-4 overall, 6-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) earned the season sweep over Denison (6-10, 4-5) after the first meeting between the two teams this season back in December went into overtime thanks to a last-second layup in regulation by
Mikaila Carpenter tied it up. The Battling Bishops then outscored the Big Red 12-5 in the extra period to win it 74-67.
This time around, Denison led 20-18 after the first quarter after shooting 50 percent (8-16) from the field and hitting three 3-pointers, but was then outscored by eight points in the second quarter and by 12 points in the third.
Gabby Elliott paced the Big Red with 17 points on 5-for-8 shooting from three. She was followed by
Maddie Goodman with 14 points, five rebounds and four blocks.
Hannah Wynn contributed by tying her career-high with six steals and adding five rebounds and five assists.
Wednesday marked the final game of the month of January for the Big Red, who now with a week off before their next game, will turn their sights to the stretch run in February beginning with another road game at the College of Wooster at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2.
