GRANVILLE, Ohio (September 4, 2021) – The second match in as many days for the Denison University women's soccer team resulted in a second straight victory for the home team as the Big Red defeated Alma College by a final score of 5-1 on Saturday evening on Barclay-Thomsen Field.
Denison (2-0) showed to be the more physically imposing team all match long, making Alma (0-3) pay for mistakes on its defensive side of the field.
In all, Denison outshot Alma 17-4 in the first half and 19-4 in the second half.
Sophia Connell scored the first goal for Denison 16 minutes in after incepting a pass deep in Alma territory.
Then in the 35th minute,
Abby King made it 2-0 with a nice goal off the assist by freshman
Kate Dalimonte.
King scored again less then seven minutes into the second half to make it 3-0, and then after a goal for Alma less than 10 minutes after that, King and the Big Red answered with another goal two and a half minutes later as King assisted on a goal by
Leland Keller.
The scoring onslaught continued as Denison's goalkeeper
Wynne Hague found
Caroline Flynn deep down field where Flynn fired a long shot over the head of the keeper and into the net.

Gail Murphy said, "We settled in tonight and moved the ball well. Our players are starting to get to know each other and play off each other. It was a good first weekend where we saw some growth and have a lot to be proud of."
King finished with a match-high eight shot attempts while Connell had five total shot attempts.
In goal,
Patil Tcholakian made four saves in the first half while Hague came on to play the entire second half.
The Denison Big Red will now have nearly a week off before their next matchup, which will be at home against Transylvania University at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 10. It will be the third of six straight home matches to open the 2021 season for Denison.
