GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison softball suffered a pair of losses on Tuesday night in Granville, losing game one to Case Western Reserve 16-1, before falling 7-1 in game two.
- Game one belonged to the Spartans who posted a pair of seven-run innings in the third and the fifth. Case Western Reserve jumped out to a 9-0 lead until Denison's Maggie Ballentine drove home DU's first run of the game in the bottom of the third, making it a 9-1 game.
- The Spartans finished the game with 14 hits, including five different players to record multi-hit efforts. Ballentine led the Big Red offense with an RBI while Clara Wolff, Allie Kovatch, and Taylor Faulkenberg each tallied a base hit.
- Game two saw CWRU open the first with a 2-0 lead, but starting pitchers Faulkenberg and Sidney Brannam went toe-to-toe through the next four innings of action, allowing only six hits combined and totaling six strikeouts.
- After Case Western added five runs in the sixth and seventh innings, the Big Red tallied an RBI single from Wolff in the home half of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as both losses dropped Denison to 6-10 on the season. CWRU improved to 16-6 in 2021.
- Caitlin Ellwanger finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate. Jessica Hopkins scored a run and Wolff ended the day with an RBI and a run scored.
Denison will return to action next Wednesday, April 14 when they welcome Ohio Wesleyan to the Denison Softball Field for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. Game two will start approximately at 7 p.m.
