GRANVILLE, Ohio – One day after splitting Friday's doubleheader at Ohio Wesleyan, Denison softball returned to Granville on Saturday where they captured a pair of victories over the Bishops, taking game one, 5-4, and game two, 12-10.
Game 1
- In game one, starting pitcher Lexi Knipp drove home the first run of the day when she connected on an RBI single up the middle to give the Big Red an early 1-0 lead in the first.
- The Bishops responded with four run in the top of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead over DU, but the Big Red answered in the home half of the inning when Noelle Chovanec scored on an error and Abby Arabia drove home Clara Wolff on a single to left, cutting Denison's deficit to 4-3.
- Tied 4-4 in the sixth, Denison took the lead for good when Gabi Dufresne roped an RBI double to score Taylor Faulkenberg as the Big Red earned their fifth win of the season.
- Sophia Parpala earned her third win of the season for Denison after she pitched three scoreless relief innings with one strikeout. Dufresne and Wolff each posted three hits in the game.
Game 2
- In game two, Denison jumped out to an early 6-1 lead through the first three innings after Caitlin Ellwanger combined for three RBIs on a single and a triple.
- The Bishops fought back with six runs in the fifth to take a brief 7-6 advantage, but the Big Red answered back in the home half of the fifth with a pair of RBI singles from Knipp and Wolff to go ahead, 8-7.
- Denison built their lead to 12-7 in the sixth when Wolff, Dufresne, and Chovanec combined for five RBIs. Ohio Wesleyan looked to rally with three runs in the top of the seventh, but their comeback fell short as Denison improve to 6-8 with the win. OWU dropped to 2-3 on the season.
- Parpala earned her second win of the day for DU after pitching two innings of four-run softball before Faulkenberg earned the save in the final inning.
- Knipp, Dufresne, and Ellwanger combined to go 6-for-9 with nine runs batted in and four runs scored. Chovanec added two RBIs and Faulkenberg finished the day 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Denison returns to action on Tuesday, April 6 when they host Case Western Reserve for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m. Game two will follow at approximately 5:30 p.m.
