CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Denison men's basketball closed out the abbreviated 2021 season on Wednesday night with a 91-79 loss to Wabash College at Chadwick Court in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
After the Big Red shot 54.2% from the field in the first half and carried a 37-35 lead into the break, the Little Giants erased their early second half deficit with a 24-9 scoring run on their way to outscoring Denison 56-42 in the half.
With 6:03 remaining in the game, a three-pointer from freshman
Darren Rubin cut the Wabash lead to five, 71-66, but the Little Giants followed with nine of the next 12 points as they pulled away from the Big Red in the final minutes to secure the win and move to 6-6 on the season. The loss dropped Denison to 5-5 on the year.
Helping the Big Red shoot 49.1% for the game, Denison was led by Rubin's career-best 19 points, including a career-high 4-of-5 from three. Junior
Freeman Brou followed with 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists on 6-of-10 shooting. Sophomore
Will Hunter added 12 points and three boards while
Spencer Patenaude's 10 points rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Big Red.
Conor Fenton led DU with 10 rebounds while chipping in six points.
WC's Kellen Schreiber led all scorers with 30 points while adding five rebounds. Tyler Watson turned in 23 points and 10 boards while Ahmoni Jones tallied 20 points on the night.
