GRANVILLE, Ohio—Denison got 21 points from
Will Hunter and 20 points from
Kevin Cheng as the Big Red handed the College of Wooster a 92-76 loss on Saturday at Livingston Gym.
The Big Red shrugged off a 72-59 loss to the same Fighting Scots squad on Friday night by coming out of the gates by sticking to the game plan and taking what the defense gave them. Today's winning formula came from efficient scoring in the paint (71%) and 3-pointers when they needed them the most.
Hunter tallied a career-best, four 3-pointers en route to his 21 point effort. He was 7-of-9 from the field. Cheng was also 7-of-9 and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
Conor Fenton entered the game leading the North Coast Athletic Conference in rebounding at 12.0 per game and he increased that average with 14 boards all on the defensive end. Fenton also added six points, three assists and three blocked shots.
Denison's bench was led by
Spencer Patenaude (17 points) and
John Faller (8 points). Denison held a 30-27 advantage on the glass and the bench outscored Wooster 32-25.
Wooster was led in scoring by Tayler McNeal's 17 points. Brandon Styers scored 13 points and Najee Hardaway chipped in 11 points and six rebounds.
Denison improves to 4-3 while Wooster drops to 2-3. The Big Red will close out it's mini-season next week with a pair of games against Wittenberg. On Thursday, March 4, Denison will host the Tigers at 7 p.m. before traveling to Springfield for a 1 p.m. tip-off against Wittenberg at 1 p.m.
