GRANVILLE, Ohio (November 9, 2021) – The Denison University field hockey team received four All-North Coast Athletic Conference selections on Tuesday morning, led by sophomore defender
Cary Mauck on the first-team. Additionally, freshman defender
Sarah Stratenus and junior defender/midfielder
Madeleine Hunt were named Second-Team All-NCAC while senior forward
Maya Tumiwa was Honorable Mention All-NCAC.
Mauck finished the year with two goals and one assist (0.29 points per game), and had one defensive save. Her .333 shot percentage was tied for 10th in the NCAC.
Stratenus had one goal (0.11 points per game) and two defensive saves (tied for eighth in NCAC).
Both Mauck and Stratenus contributed mightily to a Big Red defense that finished the season with seven shutout performances and held the opposition to one goal or less 11 times in 18 games.
Hunt led Denison in goals (7), assists (4) and points (18), good for an average of exactly 1.00 points per game, and added a team-high three defensive saves (tied for fifth in NCAC). She was also tied for fifth in the NCAC in assists, tied for sixth in points, tied for ninth in goals, and was 16th with 22 shots on goal.
Tumiwa finished the season second on the team in goals (5) while also adding two assists, good for 0.75 points per game. She was also fifth in the NCAC in total shots with 58, was tied for seventh with 31 shots on goal, and was tied for 14th in goals.
It was the first all-conference nod for Mauck, Hunt and Stratenus while Tumiwa was also Honorable Mention in 2019.
Denison finished its 2021 season 10-8 overall and 6-2 in the NCAC, finished tied for second place in the conference regular-season standings, qualified for the NCAC Tournament for the 12th season in a row and made it to the championship game for the fourth straight season.
