DELAWARE, Ohio (October 5, 2021) – Playing shorthanded with only three substitutions available for the second match in a row was no problem for the Denison University women's soccer team, which improved to 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 2-1 victory on the road at Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday night. With its first road win of the season under its belt, Denison improved to 6-3 overall.
After
Dulcie Heyes recorded an assist on both of Denison's goals last time out against Allegheny, Heyes put the Big Red on the scoreboard first in this one on the assist by
Abby King in the 31st minute.
The Denison defense worked together to limit Ohio Wesleyan to only one shot on goal in the first half, but in the 58th minute, OWU tied the match on an extremely well-placed shot just above the outstretched hands of goalkeeper
Patil Tcholakian.
The Big Red responded less than nine minutes later as after a corner kick on the left side by King, the ball went back out to King, who sent it right back into the box for a header by
Katie Livingston inside the right post to make it 2-1 Denison.
For the second match in a row, Denison had 10 players with at least one shot attempt as
Ellie Reiser led the way with five total shots and three shots on goal while
Leland Keller, Heyes and
Sophia Connell each had three shots.
Now, Denison will try and keep its momentum going for Senior Day at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, against Kenyon College on Barclay-Thomsen Field.
