Women’s soccer falls in regular-season finale

WOOSTER, Ohio (October 30, 2021) – The Denison University women's soccer team lost its only North Coast Athletic Conference match of the year with a 1-0 loss at the College of Wooster in its 2021 regular-season finale.

The Big Red outshot the Fighting Scots 16-6 in the first half and 27-20 for the match, but it was Wooster which held a narrow 10-9 advantage on shots on goal, proving to be the difference in the match.

Sophia Connell led Denison with eight total shots and three shtos on goal while Abby King added five total shots and two shots on goal.

Both goalkeepers, Denison's Patil Tcholakian and Wooster's Amanda Flory, made nine saves in this one, but the game-winner for Wooster got by in the 75th minute. Flory, meanwhile, made her first seven saves in the first half and made five saves in the final 12 minutes before halftime to help the Scots withstand a barrage of seven straight shots by the Big Red to end the first period.

It was the third straight shutout loss against Wooster for Denison, which fell to 11-3 overall and 7-1 in the NCAC while Wooster improved to 10-7-1 and 5-2-1.

The Big Red have already secured the No. 1 seed for the upcoming NCAC Tournament and will host Wittenberg University at 5 p.m. in the semifinals on Wednesday, November 3, on Barclay-Thomsen Field. During the regular season, the Big Red defeated the Tigers 1-0 during their home finale on October 23 thanks to the game-winning goal by Amy Chiero.
